Woman who fell from Ngong building buried, family continues to seek justice
A family is seeking justice in an incident where Daisy Waweru, 24, died after falling from the fourth floor of an apartment in Ngong in Kajiado county.
The incident happened on July 31 night when she fell from E Wings Apartments.
A postmortem on the body indicated that Daisy died from multiple injuries to the head, chest and abdomen, consistent with blunt force trauma.
Specimens, including urine samples, vaginal swabs and blood, were collected for further analysis, but the findings are yet to be communicated to the family.
At the time, she was in the company of four individuals—two men and two women—who were promptly arrested by the police for questioning.
The four suspects were later released as the probe indicated they had no role to play in the death.
They all told police the fall was accidental and had no role in the same.
But police said the probe into the incident is ongoing and they will forward the file to the Office of the Director of Prosecution with various recommendations.
Daisy was laid to rest on Friday, in an emotional burial ceremony attended by family and friends at the Lang’ata cemetery in Nairobi.
The circumstances surrounding her untimely death remain shrouded in mystery, the family says. They believe she was murdered.
Daisy’s mother, Susan Mungai, has pledged that the pursuit of justice and answers was only just beginning.
The family has raised serious concerns about the investigation, questioning how the four suspects were released.
They also allege that the authorities did not take their statements; instead, they were told to focus on burial preparations and record them later.
“There is something they are covering up, or he is covering for them, I don’t know,” Mungai said.
Police said the probe is ongoing and given the family was not at the scene of the incident there was no need for their statements for now.
