Woman mauled to death by suspected lion near Borana Conservancy
A middle-aged woman has been mauled to death by what is believed to be a lion.
The incident was reported to the police Sunday, at 11:54 AM by Francis Wanjohi, a driver from Ngarendare Conservancy.
According to Wanjohi, the attack occurred near Borana Conservancy along the Ethi-Borana road within the Ethi location.
Police officers promptly visited the scene, where they confirmed that the unknown woman had been attacked and killed the previous night by a wild animal, suspected to be a lion.
The gruesome attack left the body eaten beyond recognition, with only the skull, left hand, some intestines, and bones remaining. Also found at the scene were a pair of trousers and a jacket.
The scene was processed and documented by the police.
The remains were then collected and transported to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for identification and postmortem.
Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers from Umande have been informed and are actively working to establish and track the animal involved in this tragic incident.
