Why US Embassy in Nairobi will be closed on Thursday

The United States of America announced the closure of their Embassy in Nairobi on Thursday.

The embassy stated that it would be closed for the day to observe the US Independence Day.

The US Independence Day, popularly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States.

“The Embassy will be closed on July 4, 2024, in observance of U.S. Independence Day,” the statement reads.

Independence Day is marked to commemorate the Declaration of Independence, ratified by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, establishing the United States of America.

Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivalsfairs, picnics and concerts.

Others take part in baseball games, family reunionspolitical speeches, ceremonies, and various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the US.

A salute of one gun for each state in the United States called a ‘salute to the union’ is fired on Independence Day at noon by any capable military base.

During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the thirteen colonies from Great Britain in 1776 occurred on July 2, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June.

After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by the Committee of Five.

The first week of July is typically one of the busiest US travel periods of the year, as many people use what is often a three-day holiday weekend for extended vacation trips.
