Why late John DeMathew’s 2nd wife Carolyne won’t drop his name
John De’Mathew, real name John Ng’ang’a Mwangi, was a Kikuyu Benga artist who died in 2019 after a tragic road accident along the Thika Super Highway.
According to Gatanga MP Nduati Ngugi, DeMathew had at the time of his death attended a harambee in support of fellow musician Peter Kigia.
He was alone in the car when it rammed into a lorry near the Blue Post Hotel. The driver of the lorry said that he was on his way to Sagana from Athi River when a speeding vehicle hit him in the back.
At the time of his death the ‘Wendo Umaga Kuraya’ was married to Sarafina and Carolyne Waithera.
Before his death, his two wives lived harmoniously going by photos and videos shared online before the two later on faced off in court to contest his will.
In 2023, Carolyne hinted she might be ready to get married again. While interacting with her fans in a live recording on Facebook she revealed that she now wants another man to pay her dowry.
A curious fan asked about the story behind the song dubbed ‘Nikio ngukuraciria‘(..this is why I’m paying your dowry) which was recorded during her traditional wedding to which she laughed before responding by saying;
“That dowry is over, I now want someone else to pay my dowry.”
