What Vera Sidika thinks about skin lightening
A comment by Kenyan businesswoman Risper Faith about Nairobi men preferring light-skinned women has got Kenyans talking.
The online discussion was of people voicing their concern about women using skin-lightening products.
Kenyans call skin-lightening products ‘mkorogo’.
Vera Sidika also waded into the public debate after Kenyans mentioned her severally for also having done the procedure.
The discussion was a comparison over which celebrity has successfully done skin lightening.
One social media user goldencurrency noted that Vera’s was good, “You mean no one can afford to lighten like Vera Sidika.”
This led to a flood of comments noting the same thing.
Vera reposted and added, “Fr though, if you have to do it, do it right,”
4 years ago, Vera was interviewed by Amina Rabar on NTV’s The Trend after a new photo showed her looking dark-skinned.
Many wondered if her procedure had backfired. Vera told Amina that it was a treatment that could reverse from white to black.
“Never be defined by your past. It feels good to be back, black don’t crack.”
Vera wondered why Kenyans made it a big deal,
“Personally I feel like my body is my business I got to a point where I just wanted to be me. Some people said oh she is broke, she can’t afford to maintain herself but that’s not the case.”
She had done a bleaching treatment. “Personally I just fell amazing, when I posted that picture everyone said ew its bad, we want your light skin back,” she told about being trolled.
