Wetang’ula rallies support for Ruto, says he deserves second term

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has rallied voters in Meru to support President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027, citing the Kenya Kwanza administration’s development record.

Addressing residents after attending a Family Day service at Mutuati Catholic Church in Igembe North on Sunday, Wetang’ula said Ruto has pointed out President Ruto’s achievements in the education sector as one of reasons he deserved to be re-elected.

“Since President Ruto took over he has employed 76, 000 teachers. In addition there are funds allocated in the current budget to employ 24, 000 teachers, which will bring the total to 100, 000 teachers employed in about three years. We have never had such a number since independence,” said Wetang’ula.

He urged Kenyans to shun violent demonstrations adding that President Ruto should be given credit for various development projects sincen he came into office.

“You should support him because he is delivering, he deserves two terms,” he said.

Wetang’ula was accompanied by Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi, Igembe North MP Julius Taitumu, and other local leaders.

He also called on residents to re-elect Taitumu and Tigania West MP John Mutunga, who chairs the National Assembly Committee on Agriculture.

The Speaker urged citizens to prepare for the next General Election by acquiring national identity cards and registering as voters.

“We are happy we have the IEBC in place. We have over two years to the next election. I call upon citizens to get IDs and to register as voters,” he said.

Wetang’ula assured residents that the government was working with local leaders to address security concerns in the cattle rustling-prone Igembe region.

He urged calm and patience, noting that unemployment was a global challenge the government was keen to tackle.

“What we should be doing is ensure we educate our chikdten to promote their employment potential. Violent protests is not the way to go.”
