We are ready for you! Orengo tells EACC following arrest threats » Capital News
NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 26 – Siaya Governor James Orengo has scoffed at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Twalib Mbarak for accusations that his county was under investigation over alleged corruption.
In a statement,Orengo, termed Mbarak’s sentiments as“empty and containing nothing new, except outrageous hyperbole, falsehood and callous sadism”.
Mbarak, in a press address on Thursday, warned that the anti-corruption agency may soon raid the offices of the Siaya Governor upon completion of an investigation into the governance of the County.
“There have been arrests made in Siaya County as long as six (6) years ago. But no prosecutions. Complaints in regard thereto have been made many a time. But apropos the Governor, we say bring it on without delay. We are unbwogable!” read the statement.
The Siaya Governor through a statement by his Governor’s press expressed he is ready for any probe in his administration insisting he will not be cowed.
“The statement made by the CEO of EACC today in regard to the alleged on-going investigations touching on Siaya County, with an unfortunate and nuanced reference to the Governor, was reckless, irresponsible, unjustified and legally inexcusable,” read the statement.
EACC CEO had hit out at Governor Orengo for implying that the arrest of Former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani over alleged irregular use of funds during his tenure as Marsabit Governor was a political witch-hunt.
“So this is common noise we’re used to.Yesterday, the noise they made, one of the lawyers there is a Governor, his county we have even focused on it…it is in our red flag…so you can tell that lawyer-cum-Governor we may end up in his place very soon,”Mbarak stated.
