Wajir’s Dela MCA Yussuf reunites with family after missing for six months » Capital News
NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 9 – Wajir’s Dela Ward Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Yussuf Hussein Ahmed has been safely reunited with his family, six months after he was reported missing.
Ahmed was allegedly abducted on September 13, 2024, along Enterprise Road in Nairobi’s Industrial Area.
His disappearance sparked widespread concern, with fears that he might have been killed after a body was recovered in Lake Yahud a month later.
However, DNA tests confirmed that the remains were not his.
His family confirmed his return on Saturday night but did not disclose details about his condition or the circumstances of his disappearance.
A video footage seen by Capital News captured emotional scenes as family members and friends celebrated Ahmed’s safe return.
Among those who welcomed him back was Eldas Member of Parliament Adan Keynan, who expressed his relief and gratitude.
“Alhamdulillahi!!!” Keynan wrote in a Facebook post.
In his part Wajir Senator Mohamed Abass Sheikh said “Alhamdulillah! We are overjoyed to receive the news of the safe return of Hon. Yussuf Tolfiyow, the MCA for Della.”
“His absence had left the people of Della and the entire Wajir community in deep concern, but today, we celebrate his safe return with gratitude and relief.”
Milimani High Court Judge Chacha Mwita had on Jan 22 ordered the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to reveal the whereabouts of the MCA within 14 days.
Giving the directive through a virtual court proceeding, Justice Mwita noted that earlier there was an order for the Inspector General of Police to disclose the whereabouts of MCA Yussuf or produce his body in court.
However, Judge Mwita said that the Inspector General of Police and Directorate of Criminal Investigations did not abide by the directions ordered by the court on September 18, 2024.
“In the meantime, an order is hereby issued directing the Inspector General of Police to within 14 days disclose the whereabouts of third petitioner Yussuf Hussein Ahmed,” Judge Mwita directed.
The court had been urged to grant the orders in an application dated November 8, 2024, that included an order directing the Inspector General of Police to disclose the whereabouts of the missing Wajir MCA.
In this case, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), Wajir County Governor Ahmed Abdullahi and the missing MCA were listed as the first, second and third petitioners respectively.
The IG, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Attorney General (AG) were listed as the respondents in the case while the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) was an interested party.
Mwita also directed the petitioner to serve written submissions to the petition not exceeding 10 pages within 7 days from the date the orders were issued.
He also added that the respondents and interested parties will have 7 days after service to file their written submissions not exceeding 10 pages each.
Notably, Justice Mwita added that he will not be extending the duration for the Inspector General of Police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to file the submissions on the matter.
Mwita added that the written and served submissions will be highlighted on April 9, 2025.
To date, police have repeatedly denied any involvement in the MCA’s disappearance or detention.
