UON unveils 150 Wi-Fi hotspots at students hostels » Capital News
Nairobi, Kenya, Mar 26 – The University of Nairobi (UON) has unveiled 150 WI-FI hot spots which have been spread across student’s hostels.
The event was incorporated with the UON compassion day aimed at helping needy students in the university.
Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo praised the university’s Wi-Fi infrastructure for its commitment to enhancing connectivity and facilitating easy access to online resources.
“UON is enhancing its academic experience and strengthening its administrative capabilities through investments in connectivity and digitalization, it is positioning itself as a leader in higher education innovation,” stated Owalo.
He emphasized that the deployment of WI-FI infrastructure in the University was in line with the Kenya Kwanza Transformation Agenda.
The University commissioned several digitalized initiatives namely; the Electronic Record and Document Management System (EDRMIS), Online Recruitment System and Portal, Financial Management System Upgrade, Virtual Car Sticker Issuance System, and the expansion of campus LAN and Wi-Fi infrastructure.
The comprehensive upgrade plan outlined during the ceremony includes modernizing server hardware, enhancing network infrastructure, and bolstering disaster recovery capabilities, with substantial investments committed to supporting the institution’s ongoing digital transformation journey.
Subsequently, the university marked its compassion day which aimed to sensitize the University community, partners and alumni to support needy students by paying their school fees and giving other donations like food stuffs and clothes with 5000 students already registered for the compassion program.
