Uganda to start import of petroleum products via Mombasa

President William Ruto hosted his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni at State House, Nairobi. He is in Kenya for a three-day State Visit.

Kenya and Uganda have struck a deal which will pave way for the land locked nation to import petroleum products through the port of Mombasa.

President William Ruto and his Uganda Counterpart who held bilateral talks at state House Nairobi Thursday also confirmed the two Countries have agreed to jointly extend the crude oil pipeline from Eldoret to Kampala in Uganda in order to facilitate trade ties between the two nations.

The two leaders witnessed the signing of several bilateral agreements meant to boost the two countries relations.

Addressing a joint press briefing, President Ruto revealed a mutual plan by Kenya and Uganda to extend the crude oil pipeline from Eldoret in Uasin Gishu County to Kampala in Uganda.

The two Heads of state highlighted the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha to Malaba, Kampala and DRC.

The two nations also agreed to eliminate existing trade barriers hindering smooth flow of goods and border points.

Kenya also lauded Uganda’s endorsement of Raila Odinga for the African Union Commission Chair.
