Tragic end for missing Naivasha medic: Body found in shallow grave, househelp arrested

The search for a missing medic from Naivasha Sub-county Hospital ended in tragedy after her decomposing body was discovered buried in a shallow grave within her compound.

Jane Wambui Njoroge, a clinical officer in charge of the pediatrician ward at the facility, was found dead at her home in Raini Village, a day after her house help was arrested in connection with her disappearance.

Emotions ran high as detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) exhumed the body with preliminary investigations indicating that she was killed with a blunt object.

Wambui was last seen at the hospital on Friday last week and her whereabouts remained unknown until the family reported the matter to police.

According to her husband, John Kimani, he last spoke with her that Friday. He later received a call on Sunday informing him that she was missing.

Kimani who works in Kitale said that he authorized members of the public who had gathered in his compound to break into the house to check whether she was inside.

“My wife has been suffering from cancer and when I was told she was missing, I gave orders to those present to break in and they did not find anything,” he said.

He expressed shock upon learning that their long-time house-help, whom the family had supported for years, had been arrested after being implicated in his wife’s disappearance.

“The house-help was once my tenant whom we agreed to support as she could not pay her rent and am still in shock that she had something to do with this murder,” he said.

Naivasha OCPD Antony Keter confirmed the arrest, adding that the middle-aged woman led investigators to the scene after interrogation.

He said detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are pursuing additional suspects believed to have been involved in the murder and in burying the body.

“The family made a report of a missing person and after investigations we arrested one suspect who led us to the scene and we are seeking more,” he said.

Nancy Wanjiku, a cleric from the PCEA Church, recounted their anguish during the week-long search for the missing medic, only to learn of her brutal murder.

“She did not attend church on Sunday which is unlike her and we embarked on a search mission and it’s sad that it has ended on a shallow grave,” she said.
