This is how Kabu Simon made his immense wealth
Simon started his career as a cook in a small food stand (kibandaski) in Nairobi, preparing chapati and mandazi to cover much of his university fees.
As his kibandaski business grew, so did his rapport with touts around the bus station. By the time he joined university, financial hardships forced him to turn to the touting business to raise enough funds.
Simon expanded his business ventures by selling CDs and renting out movie videos, diversifying his income streams.
He then began his illustrious career as a regional sales head at Unga Group Limited.
It was during this time that he conceived the idea of starting a tour company. In 2007, Simon and his wife Sarah, thanks to their charisma, were assigned to coordinate an end-of-year party, which slowly but surely led to the growth of Bonfire Adventures.
Together, they resigned from their jobs to focus fully on building the company’.
A decade later, the company had grown to become one of the best tour companies in Kenya and Africa.
Less than ten years later, Bonfire Adventures’ annual turnover was 700 million Kenyan shillings, making it to KPMG’s top 100 mid-sized companies.
Two years later, Bonfire Adventures joined the billionaires club, with an annual turnover of more than a billion Kenyan shillings.
To this day, Kabu Simon remains one of the most influential businesspersons, having successfully placed Bonfire Adventures on a global scale.
