State to review low capitation to schools

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has said the Government is working closely with schools that received low capitation to rectify the matter following a glitch in the disbursement of the funds.

Speaking when he graced the inaugural graduation ceremony at Riragia Technical and Vocational College (TVC) in Marani Sub County Kisii County, CS Ogamba said there could have been an error in the schools that received the funds and the Ministry is in touch with the affected schools to resolve the issue.

The CS noted that this was the first year the government had released the capitation for the second term in May as opposed to the previous years when the funds were disbursed later in the year.

He also assured the parents that the examination fees will be catered for by the government.

He added that last month, the government released Ksh 21 billion as capitation to public schools.

The disbursement of the funds to schools is usually conducted in three phases: 50 percent in term one, 30 percent in term two and 20 percent in term three.
