State to fence off Mau Forest to prevent encroachment

The government will proceed to fence off the Mau Forest Complex to prevent encroachment and other illegal activities, President William Ruto has announced.

According to the head of state, the move will help protect the forest’s boundaries, deter future violations, and secure the forest’s integrity.

“Nimetafuta pesa ili kusiwe na tashwishi yoyote tuweke fence Mau Forest. Awamu ya kwanza tunajenga 100km ya fence ili kusiingie mtu mwingine na ijulikane ni msitu na ni mali ya wananachi wa Narok na wananchi wa Kenya,” he stated.

The President, who is currently in Narok County for a development tour, expressed his dismay that the issue of Mau Forest conservation has been politicized for many years.

“Msitu wa Mau umekuwa suala la kufanyia siasa miaka nenda, miaka rudi. Mau itakoma kuwa mahali pa kufanyia siasa kwa sababu ni msitu muhimu katika taifa la Kenya. Inatusaidia tuwe na mito ambayo ni muhimu kwa kilimo na ufugaji,” he remarked.

He reiterated his commitment to keep the forest complex free from human activity and ensure its conservation for future generations.

“Hakuna mtu hata mmoja ameweza kuingia ndani ya Msitu wa Mau tangu niwe rais. Wale walikuwa ndani tumewaondoa. Na leo nimekuja hapa na Title Deed ya Mau na nitapeana kwa kaunti ya Narok ili kusiwe na taswishi kuhusu mambo ya Mau. Itakuwa chini ya sekarali ya Kaunti ya Narok,” he said.

Additionally, while addressing residents of Suswa, the President mentioned that his administrationis also tackling the issue in Kedong by allocating more land to the locals.

“Hapa Kedong, serikali ilikuwa imewapa hekari 4,000. Mimi nimeenda nimetafuta pesa ya serikali na nimewanunulia hekari zingine 6,000. Sasa pale Kedong mtakuwa na hekari 10,000. Mimi niko tayari kuwapa Title Deeds. Vyeti hivi vitakuwa tayari kwa wiki moja,” he announced.
