Apr 17 – Tragedy struck in a Sydney shopping mall over the weekend as five women and a Pakistani man lost their lives in a knife attack, according to reports from local community groups and media outlets.

The Australian Pakistani National Association and an Ahmadiyya community organization revealed that Faraz Tahir, a 30-year-old security guard at the mall, was among the victims of the assailant wielding a knife.

The attacker’s motive remains unconfirmed by authorities, who are investigating whether women were deliberately targeted.

Among the victims was Ashlee Good, whose nine-month-old baby, wounded in the attack, was rushed to the hospital. Good’s family described her as an exceptional individual, still grappling with the profound loss.

In addition to Tahir, a recent migrant to Australia escaping persecution in Pakistan, another Pakistani citizen named Taha Umar Khan sustained injuries and is currently hospitalized in stable condition.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Australia mourned Tahir’s tragic demise, highlighting his bravery and selflessness in protecting others during the attack. Tahir, known for his dedication and kindness, had just begun working as a security guard before the fatal incident.

Scentre Group, the mall’s owner, expressed deep sorrow over Tahir’s death, acknowledging his courage in safeguarding the community during the rampage. CEO Elliott Rusanow extended heartfelt condolences to Tahir’s family and all affected by the tragedy.
