Senate convenes special sitting to consider key county revenue bills
The Senate will hold a special sitting today (Friday) to debate key revenue bills that will guide the distribution of resources to counties and marginalised areas.
In a notice issued by Speaker Amason Kingi, the sitting was convened under Standing Order 33(1), following a formal request by Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruyiot and supported by the required number of senators.
Top on the agenda is the Equalisation Fund Appropriation Bill (Senate Bills No. 7 of 2025), which outlines funding for areas identified as marginalised and the County Allocation of Revenue Bill (Senate Bills No. 9 of 2025), which sets the formula for equitable sharing of national revenue among the 47 counties.
The Senate will also consider the County Governments Additional Allocations (No. 2) Bill (Senate Bills No. 8 of 2025) aimed at providing supplementary funding to county governments for specific national government functions.
The upper house will also deliberate on the Report of the Mediation Committee on the Division of Revenue Bill (National Assembly Bills No. 10 of 2025), together with the agreed version of the bill.
The Senate is also expected to address any other urgent business or messages received from the National Assembly or a County Assembly.
Once concluded, the Senate is expected to adjourn until Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 2:30PM, as per the Senate Calendar.
