Ruto congratulates new UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer
President William Ruto congratulated newly elected British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on his election victory.
“On behalf of the government and the people of Kenya, I wish to convey my utmost congratulations to Sir Keir Starmer on the overwhelming support garnered by the Labour Party at the just concluded elections and his subsequent appointment as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom,” said Ruto Saturday morning
Ruto described the election of Starmer as a testimony to the deep yearning of the citizens of the United Kingdom for progressive politics and policies embodied by the Labour Party.
He undertook to work closely with the British leader to strengthen relations between Nairobi and London for the benefit of the two sides.
“I stand ready to work with Prime Minister Starmer to foster our bilateral commercial, defence and political cooperation while contributing together towards building a safer, equitable and sustainable global future,” he said
Starmer led the Labour Party to a landslide victory on Thursday’s elections in the United Kingdom bringing an end to 14 years of Conservative rule.
His appointment as Prime Minister was made official during an audience at Buckingham Palace Friday with appointment by King Charles III.
