
Ruto commits to inclusive development, praises unity with Raila
President William Ruto has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to inclusive development, describing the unity with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as a crucial foundation for Kenya’s transformative journey.
Speaking at State House Nairobi during a meeting with Kisumu leaders led by Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, President Ruto stated that cooperation among different political partues is driving national progress and ensuring that no region is left behind.
“Our broad-based government is neither the creation of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga nor myself; it is God-sent,” said the President. “It has given us the political goodwill to make bold decisions and implement a truly national development agenda.”
During the event, President Ruto unveiled a Ksh700 million plan to modernize Moi Stadium Kisumu, transforming it into an ultra-modern sports complex. He also announced several initiatives:
- KSh700 million for solar installation at Ahero Irrigation Scheme to boost rice farming;
- A KSh3.5 billion rice modernization programme in partnership with JICA;
- Elevation of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital to Level 6, with KSh3 billion allocated;
- Construction of a second ferry by Kenya Shipyards Ltd to enhance Lake Victoria transport;
- Progress on the Lake Victoria Search and Rescue Centre, which is now 35% complete;
- The Kabonyo Fisheries and Aquaculture Centre, valued at KSh1.3 billion, aimed at producing up to 30 million fingerlings annually.
President Ruto reiterated that his administration is delivering on its promise to unify the country through development rather than division.
“We are committed to our resolve that no region or community will be left behind. Inclusive development is the engine of our nation’s prosperity,” he stated.
National transformation
Highlighting progress across key sectors, the President noted:
- Maize production has increased from 44 million to 65 million bags, with expectations to reach 75 million;
- Sugar imports have decreased by 75%, and maize imports by 90% due to agricultural reforms;
- 7 million Kenyans are registered with the Social Health Authority, which has paid KSh41 billion in claims over eight months;
- Over 700,000 affordable housing units are in the pipeline, creating 250,000 jobs;
- 76,000 teachers have been hired in two years, with an additional 24,000 to be employed this year.
The Kisumu delegation included MPs, MCAs, clergy, elders, professionals, and businesspeople.
President Ruto assured Kenyans that the government remains focused on delivering prosperity for all.
“With unity and shared purpose, Kenya’s transformation is unstoppable,” he said.
