Ruto allies rooting for Government of National Unity

A section of Members of Parliament from the North Rift Region allied to President William Ruto is urging the head of state to consider forming a government of national unity.

The UDA MPs argue that events of the last couple of weeks demonstrate that President Ruto needs to bring the country together and that coopting leaders from the opposition into his administration will make this agenda a great success.

“Ikiwezekana, let us form a Government of National Unity bora tukuwe na amani kwa Kenya yetu. Hakuna ubaya Raila Odinga akileta watu wake waingie kwa serikali na hakuna ubaya Gen Z wapate waziri waingie kwa serikali,” said Timothy Toroitich, Member of Parliament for Marakwet West

They said criticism of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for expressing support for national dialogue announced by the president was uncalled for. Emgwen Lawmaker Josses Lelmengit lauded the President for his willingness to join hands with other leaders including Raila to help the country out of a political crisis.

“Nampongeza rais William Ruto kwa kuleta karibu baba (Raila Odinga) na opposition. Hii ni swala nyeti kwa Wakenya wote. Tunamuunga mkono 100% kwa huo mkakati,” said the lawmaker

While supporting the idea of a government of national unity under President Ruto, the ruling party MPs maintain that no one or a few ethnic groups can lead Kenya at the exclusion of others.

“Hakuna kabila moja inaweza kuongoza Kenya pekee. Tunahitaji Wakenya wote wakae pamoja. Tunataka Kenya moja na rais William Ruto ameskiza, na amesema tuje tuketi chini tesemezane,” said Julius Melly, MP Tinderet
