Ruto allied Mt Kenya MPs hit out at Gachagua, call for regional unity

A section of Mt Kenya MPs has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of divisive politics and pledged full support for President William Ruto’s leadership.

Led by Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri, the legislators said the region should remain united and focus on completing development projects initiated under both the current and previous administrations.

“If he comes to your meetings, make sure he gives you lunch and airtime. Do not settle for empty words,” said Kiunjuri.

Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina said the MPs had formed coordinated teams to tour the Mt Kenya region to counter what they described as misleading narratives from government critics.

“Our people have been poisoned by propaganda from those opposing the government. We’re here to correct that,” he said, thanking Nyahururu residents for protecting a newly opened Chieni Supermarket branch during recent demonstrations.

Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere dismissed claims that pro-government leaders were unable to hold successful rallies in Nyahururu and warned against importing tribal politics into Laikipia.

“We will not allow tribal politics in Laikipia. Let us stay united and support peace and development,” she said.

Her sentiments were echoed Laikipia Woman Representative Jane Kagiri who called for unity and revealed plans to table two motions in Parliament, one to impose import duty on agricultural products to safeguard local farmers, and another to regulate interest rates on boda boda and vehicle loans.

The leaders spoke during a boda boda empowerment drive in Nyahururu where funds were disbursed to over 40 groups.

Host MP Wachira Karani said the initiative was aimed at strengthening the sector while also fostering political unity in the region.
