President Ruto Urges Fiscal Restraint Amid Doctors’ Strike » Capital News
NAIROBI, KENYA, APRIL 7 – President William Ruto has appealed to the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentist Union (KMPDU) to consider the current financial constraints of the government while assessing their demands.
Addressing the congregation at AIC Fellowship in Eldoret today, the President emphasized the importance of fiscal responsibility, urging doctors to recognize the limitations of the state’s budgetary allocations for healthcare.
“The government’s offer is a reflection of the fiscal realities we face. We must acknowledge that our financial resources are limited, and we cannot exceed our means,” President Ruto stated.
While expressing appreciation for the invaluable contributions of doctors and interns to the healthcare sector, the President stressed the necessity of aligning expectations with available resources.
He assured that despite the financial constraints, the government remains committed to ensuring that all 1500 medical interns are promptly deployed to their designated stations.
“We are dedicated to absorbing all our medical interns into the healthcare system. We will utilize the available resources to facilitate their placements,” President Ruto affirmed.
Highlighting the strain on the national budget, President Ruto revealed that a substantial portion of the annual revenue, approximately KSh1.1 trillion out of KSh2.2 trillion, is allocated towards salaries and allowances.
“It’s imperative that we adopt a prudent approach to financial management. We cannot sustainably allocate funds beyond our means,” he reiterated.
