President Ruto applauds parliament as he opens Bunge Towers » Capital News
NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 25 – President William Ruto has applauded Parliament for erecting a modern building that will facilitate effective discharge of duties by legislators .
Speaking during the official launch of the Bunge Tower on Thursday morning, President Ruto commended the Parliamentary Service Commission led by the National Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses Wetang`ula for spearheading the project to completion.
He assured Parliament that his government will continue supporting projects aimed at enabling Members of Parliament to serve Kenyans better.
The Head of State used the opportunity to appeal to Members of Parliament to take advantage of the new world class building, to offer world class services to Kenyans.
“Because you now have a world class building and facilities, Kenyans expect world class services from you,” stated President Ruto.
“You have no reason but to give the people of Kenya the best,” he added.
While acknowledging that Bunge Tower offers a shot in the arm to the operations of Parliament, President Ruto urged the lawmakers to strive to improve the quality of the legislature’s output now that they have the state of art facilities.
He assured Parliament that the Executive will continue working closely with Parliament to realise his government’s agenda.
Noting that he was keen to have the legislature oversight his government, the President commended the Members for amending their respective Standing Orders to pave way for Wednesday appearances by Cabinet Secretaries before both Houses Parliament, to respond to Members’ Questions.
The Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who had accompanied President Ruto during the launch, commended the Parliamentary Service Commission for leading the transition to the modern Bunge Tower building.
He appealed to Parliamentarians to make good use of the structure by serving the electorate with utmost dedication.
He further called on Parliament to work closely with the Executive towards the implementation of a number of national programs rolled out by the government, among them, the fight against drug abuse in order to protect the young generation.
Other government officials who spoke during the launch were the Prime Cabinet Secretary, the Rt. Hon. Musalia Mudavadi and the Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Hon. Aden Duale.
Also present were former Speakers, Hon. Francis Ole Kaparo, Hon. Kenneth Marende and the Hon. Justin Muturi who were commended for their respective roles from conception of the building project to its implementation.
