Pastor Dorcas heads to Rumuruti, brings together County, Church in Sports for youth empowerment

Pastor Dorcas Rigathi on Friday brought together the county government and clergy in efforts to empower the youth through football, and keep off alcohol, drugs, and substance abuse at the AIC Rumuruti Grounds in Laikipia County.

The spouse of the Deputy President also called on all leaders to embrace the vulnerable populations in the society saying they stand a chance to change the world when they are appreciated and empowered.

Speaking at AIC Rumuruti Primary School Grounds in Laikipia county, where she gave sports gear to the clergy from the 15 wards of Laikipia County, Pastor Dorcas emphasized the need for Kenyans to take care of one another irrespective of status, religion or ethnicity as one nation and members of the body of Christ.

As a champion of the boy child in Kenya, Pastor Dorcas as she is fondly referred to encouraged mothers to continue mentoring their boy children the right way as seed carriers to ensure continuity of the next generation.

“A man is important in our families and without them there will be no children and without children there will be no generation,” she posed.

She castigated those engaged in selling illicit brews to young men in the name of doing business saying they were hell bent on wiping out this generation and subsequent ones.

The sports gear which included uniforms, shoes and balls are intended to be used by the boy child in Laikipia County in tournaments to ‘engage the boy child in constructive activities’.

Those who attended the event included Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu, his deputy Reuben Kamuri, and the leadership and members of the Association of Pentecostal and Evangelical Clergy for Kenya (APECK), for which Pastor Dorcas is the patron, Laikipia APECK Chair Bishop George Maina, and National Chair APECK Rev Fredrick Ngugi.

The exercise of raising teams was led by Apostle Chris Bakari, APECK Secretary in the region, and a former footballer in the Kenya Air Force.

The teams will undergo physical training, mentorship, discipleship, and screening against psychoactive substances.

The team members will be ambassadors against alcoholism, drug and substance abuse in their regions.
