Over 2,600 apply for Judiciary jobs as JSC vows transparent hiring process

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has received over 2,600 applications for various judicial positions in the just concluded recruitment drive.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Chief Justice Martha Koome who also chairs the JSC assured of a transparent hiring process stating that recruitment part Judiciary’s efforts to expand its capacity and reduce the backlog of cases.

The positions advertised included 15 Judges of the Court of Appeal, 20 High Court Judges, 10 Judges of the Environment and Land Court, 100 Resident Magistrates, and 5 Kadhis.

Koome said a total of 2,679 applications were submitted by the July 7 deadline.

The highest number of applications was for the Resident Magistrates’ positions, which attracted 1,714 candidates, followed by 376 for High Court Judges and 253 for Kadhis.

The Court of Appeal posts received 94 applications, while 242 applied for the Environment and Land Court vacancies.

Koome warned the public against falling prey to fraudsters seeking bribes in exchange for appointments, stressing that the JSC does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment.

“The Commission does not charge any fee at any stage of the recruitment process. Members of the public are strongly advised to be vigilant and to ignore any messages, calls, or individuals purporting to offer employment or promotions within the Judiciary in exchange for money or personal favours,” the CJ cautioned.

She further acknowledged recent system outages that have significantly disrupted the Judiciary’s e-filing system.

Koome assured the public that alternative systems are in place under the Judiciary’s Business Continuity Policy to ensure continued service delivery as the technical team works to restore full functionality.
