Operation Maliza Uhalifu: Second command centre set up in Laikipia
A second command centre has been established to tackle insecurity in Laikipia County.
This was announced Thursday by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who declared total war on criminals in Mukogodo forest, a hideout for bandits.
To enhance operational efficiency, the CS who toured the region said the new command center will serve Samburu and Laikipia counties and some parts of Baringo, Marsabit, Meru and Isiolo counties.
The first command center in Chemolingot, Baringo County, serves Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot and Turkana counties.
Both centers will operate under one command,” he said, as he vowed to flush out the criminals.
“We’re zeroing in on the few remaining criminal hideouts in the region to eliminate sporadic attacks that the criminals have resorted to recently. With immediate effect, we will flush out criminals who have turned the Mukogodo forest in Laikipia County into a center for plotting criminal activities in the area”, he stated.
Murkomen further lauded the success of Operation Maliza Uhalifu in restoring peace in the North Rift.
“Two years on, Operation Maliza Uhalifu has been successful in bringing peace to most parts of Kerio Valley save for a few trouble spots. To enhance operational efficiency, we have today opened a second command center in Kirimon, Laikipia County” he announced.
He assured that the government will not relent until all affected areas are secured, paving the way for lasting peace and prosperity.
“We shall also mount targeted operations in the remaining disturbed areas in the region. We’re leaving no room for criminals to inflict terror on any community or to deprive them of their property, he committed.
He was accompanied by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, DIG KPS Eliud Lagat, Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Dr. Abdi Hassan, senior commanders and top security officers from Samburu, Laikipia, Marsabit, Meru and Isiolo counties.
