ODM Youth League rejects Kipchumba’s nomination to replace Mbadi in Parliament
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Youth League has opposed the nomination of Harold Kimuge Kipchumba to replace Treasury CS John Mbadi in Parliament as a nominated MP.
Addressing the press at Chungwa House on Monday, ODM Youth League President John Ketora accused Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chair Erustus Ethekon of disregarding the party’s proposed nominee (John Ketora) for the position.
Ketora announced plans to challenge Kipchumba’s nomination in court, terming it a violation of the party’s internal processes.
He warned that they are prepared to leave the party if that is what it takes to get justice.
The youth leaders have given the ODM leadership one week to address what they termed an injustice, threatening to issue new directives to their supporters if the matter is not resolved.
In a special Gazette Notice dated July 22, IEBC Chairman Erustus Ethekon announced that ten special seats had been reallocated following the resignations and passing on of previously nominated members, as well as adjustments to correct inconsistencies in party list nominations submitted during the 2022 General Election.
The adjustments affected nomination categories including youth, persons with disabilities, minority groups, and gender top-up lists.
