KISUMU, Kenya, Apr 19 – Leaders in Nyanza region from the political divide have joined other Kenyans to mourn the late Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla.

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, who was to host the late General in Kisumu described Ogolla as a patriotic and a dedicated servant of the people, who performed his duties diligently.

“On behalf on my family and the people of Kisumu County, I send heartfelt condolences to General Ogolla’s family, colleagues and the Kenya Defense Forces,” Nyong’o said.

Ogolla died on Thursday afternoon in a tragic helicopter crash that also claimed the lives of other nine other senior military officers in Elgeyo Marakwet.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) activist in Kisumu Joshua Nyamori says the death has robbed the nation of a gallant soldier.

Nyamori too confirmed that General Ogolla was to meet and discuss development matters with a section of UDA officials during his visit in Kisumu today.

“Our interim Kisumu chairman George Ayugi had secured a meeting with General Ogolla,” he said.

Nyamori says plans were underway to rehabilitate Nyalunya primary school in Kisumu East by Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) and opening up of water ways to cushion locals from flooding menace.

He says the country and the Luo nation by extension has lost a soldier who had development at heart.

“On many occasions, as the chair National Security, Defense and Foreign Relations in the 12th Parliament of the Senate, we touched base with the late General, discussing matters relating to the Ministry of Defense,” Outa added.

He added that the country will truly miss his services having died at a prime age when Kenyans were still looking ahead for his services.
