
NPS advisory ahead of Saba Saba protests
The National Police Service (NPS) has issued an advisory to Kenyans intending to participate in Monday’s Saba Saba protests.
In a statement Sunday evening, the Police Service reaffrimed its commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of all Kenyans, maintain peace, law and order.
Under Article 243 of the Kenyan Constitution, NPS is mandated to ensure public safety national security. Further, NPS has been entrusted to protect the right to protest per Article 37.
Ahead of the planned Saba Saba protests, NPS reminded and warned Kenyans against: carrying weapons which it stated shall be treated as a direct violation of the Constitution and attempting to access protected Government installations.
Looting, vandalism and any form of vandalism of property, blocking roads and provoking officers who are out to maintain law and order shall be met with with firm lawful action, the Police said.
“Such acts are unacceptable and shall be handled with the deserved seriousness,” the statement read.
