Norwegian woman claims she was assaulted, robbed in Kilimani, cops not helping » Capital News

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 18 – A Norwegian woman has protested police inaction in a case she says she was assaulted by three women and two men in an apartment in Kilimani area, Nairobi.

Maria Abdisalam says she was also robbed of cash and a mobile phone in the drama on July 26 by people known to her.

Further, she says the suspects body-shamed her by taking her videos and photos while naked and have been blackmailing and threatening her while demanding money from her with impunity.

She claimed the men were armed with pistols.

She has written to the Inspector General of police and Director of Criminal Investigations claiming police at Kilimani are reluctant to take action on the suspects known to her.

Maria said she was on holiday in Kenya when she was invited to a house where the incident took place.

She reported cases of robbery with violence, attempted gang rape and assault causing grievous bodily harm at Kilimani Police Station, which was recorded under O.B. Number 02/26/07/2024.

But since then nothing has happened despite her processing a P3 Form as required.
The P3 Form states among others, she was sexually assaulted.

Her lawyer Albert Kuloba wrote to the police bosses accusing those at Kilimani of taking sides.

“Upon lodging her complaint, she was asked to obtain the P3 Form, which she duly obtained on 31st July 2024.”

“However, our client has further informed us that no further action has been taken by the police to progress the matter, which is causing her considerable distress,” the letter dated August 16 reads.

The lawyer said in view thereof, given the nature and significance of this matter to Maria, he asked an update on the current status of the investigation, including any steps that have been taken so far and any anticipated actions within the next seven days.

Police say the probe into the matter is ongoing and they intend to summon the mentioned suspects on Monday August 19 for processing.

Kilimani police boss Ben Kobia confirmed the matter had been reported at the station and the probe is ongoing.

“I understand the matter is under active probe. We will take the file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution with recommendations,” he said.

The woman however accused police of being unfair to her since the matter was reported.

“They have been taking me in circles without explaining the way forward. The suspects are now threatening and warning me against pursuing the matter which I find weird,” she said.

Police asked her to report any form of threats to her from the said suspects.
