
No Region Will Be Left Behind, DP Kindiki Assures Wajir Residents » Capital News
NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 24 – Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has assured the residents of North Eastern that the Kenya Kwanza administration will not isolate the region in development projects being undertaken in other parts of the country.
Speaking on Saturday at Ohahey Grounds in Wajir East during Wajir County Economic Empowerment program, the Deputy President emphasised that the people of Northern Kenya deserve equal treatment like other Kenyans.
“We are one country. We do not need discrimination of any nature and this is the government that will ensure that we have the unity as a nation,” he said.
Prof. Kindiki said the Ruto administration has demonstrated the commitment by implementing the proclamation directing the removal of all discriminatory vetting requirements in acquiring National Identification Cards that denied residents of the Northern Kenya Region and other border Counties access to the crucial document and other citizenship documents.
“The President came here, in this grounds in February this year and issued a Proclamation to remove discriminatory policies including long vetting processes. In the past, the youths from Wajir and other parts of North Eastern used to go through long procedures when they wanted to acquire IDs,” he noted.
The Deputy President outlined key development projects undertaken by the Kenya Kwanza administration including the famous 750 Kilometers road network connecting Isiolo, Wajir and Mandera counties.
“We are on course in implementing the promises we made to all Kenyans including this region. The famous road network connecting Mandera-Ramu-Garre-Elwak-Kotulo-Tarbaj-Wajir-Samata-Habaswein-Modogashe-Kulamawe to Isiolo is being constructed. When the President mentioned the road people thought it was a joke”
The DP said that the roads connecting the three counties is the longest ever road to be constructed by any government since independence.
At the same time, the Deputy President indicated that the government is on course in the electricity connectivity to cover the regions that are not fully connected.
One of the projects is the Hybridization electricity generation programme where the construction of a major power plant connecting solar power using powered diesel that is expected to fully address power supply shortages in North Eastern region.
The plants are being constructed in Merti in Isiolo County, Eldas and Habaswein in Wajir County and Elwak in Mandera County.
DP Kindiki also reiterated that the administration is on course in construction of eight fresh produce modern markets in Wajir County including Elwak, Eldas, Merti among others.
Other ongoing projects being undertaken include the affordable housing projects, among them hostels for Wajir East TVET, Wajir KMTC Campus, and Tarbaj Teachers Training College, among other institutions.
Leaders present were Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, also the Chairman Council of Governors, Kimani Ichungwa (Majority Leader National Assembly), Japhet Nyakundi (Kitutu Chache North), Fatuma Abdi Jehow (Wajir County MP), Farah Maalim (Dadaab), Mohammed (Lafey) Adan (Lafey), Adan Keynan (Eldas), Hussein Barre (Tarbaj), Umul Ker Kassim (County MP Mandera), Innocent Mugabe (Likuyani), John Bwire (Taveta) and a host of MCAs from Wajir County.
