Murkomen patrols CBD as security heightened ahead of protests

The Government has beefed up security in and around Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) to mark the first anniversary of the Gen Z protests.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen early Wednesday morning made an impromptu visit to assess the security preparedness in anticipation of Kenyans who have vowed to hit the streets.

CS Murkomen interacted with the security personnel attached to Harambee House offices before walking to meet the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja in his Jogoo House A office.

On his way, the CS met and interacted briefly with law enforcement officers patrolling the streets and ordinary Kenyans walking to places of work.

On Tuesday, CS Murkomen urged the police to act decisively to uphold law and order noting that rogue elements are misusing protests to create chaos.

“The National Police Service must be ruthless in dealing with such criminals because we want this country to be a country of law and order, not a country of chaos, so that all of us can thrive,” he said.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja assured the nation of the police service’s commitment to maintaining safety, despite facing numerous challenges.

He expressed gratitude to President William Ruto for his ongoing support and pledged to lead officers in executing their duties with professionalism.

“I want to assure them that we stand with them, we support them, we want them to execute their mandate to ensure that our country remains safe,” he said.
