Mudavadi sets stage for Ruto’s UK deals

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi chaired a planning meeting in London on Monday with Cabinet colleagues and senior government officials in anticipation of President William Ruto’s official visit to the United Kingdom, where he will sign the renewed Kenya–UK Strategic Partnership 2025–2030.

The meeting included Cabinet Secretaries John Mbadi (National Treasury and Economic Planning), Davis Chirchir (Transport and Roads), Solicitor General Shadrack Mose, and Members of Parliament from the Defence & Foreign Affairs and Transport Committees.

The agreement will be formalized at 10 Downing Street in the presence of President Ruto and UK Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Sir Keir Starmer.

“The agreement aims to drive economic growth, create meaningful employment, strengthen technological cooperation, and advance our shared commitment to climate and public safety,” said Mudavadi, who described the meeting as a productive planning session.

“The partnership aims to double trade by 2030, equip Kenyans with digital skills, and strengthen cooperation on regional stability, terrorism, cyber threats, and climate action,” added State House in a statement

Under the trade and green growth pillar, priority projects such as the Nairobi Railway City will be expedited, transforming Nairobi’s Central Business District into a modern, transit-oriented economic hub. The UK has also committed to mobilizing up to £1.5 billion in new investments across Kenya by 2030.

At the same time, Lloyd’s of London is expected to announce the establishment of a regional underwriting hub in Nairobi under the Nairobi International Financial Centre (NIFC), positioning Kenya’s capital as a financial gateway for Sub-Saharan Africa.

During his time in the UK, President Ruto is also scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the Africa Debate, hosted by Invest Africa, a leading platform that brings together global investors to explore strategic partnerships aligned with Kenya’s economic transformation agenda.
