Missing Mlolongo 4 not in police custody, IG Kanja, DCI boss tell court

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI Director Mohamed Amin on Thursday told the High Court that the four missing men from Mlolongo are not in police custody.

Appearing before Justice Chacha Mwita, Kanja said no police unit is holding the men and assured the public of their safety.

He added that investigations were launched after reports of their disappearance were made at Mlolongo and Athi River police stations in December.

“I directed the DCI to commence investigations, and the lead investigator, Assistant IG Paul Wachira, is before the court to provide a progress report,” Kanja said.

“I am a law-abiding citizen who upholds court orders,” he added.

On his part, Amin told the court that investigations were ongoing and that the case file would be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) once complete.

“I wish to state that the missing persons are not in the custody of the National Police Service. We have not arrested them,” he said.
