Mike Rua’s daughter speaks of tough decision to quit music

Queen P was one of the female artists signed under the Saldido Record Label. She released one hit and then disappeared from the scene. Recently, she has reemerged to explain her absence and share her new plans.

Queen P is the daughter of Kikuyu singer Mike Rua. In an interview with Kenya Online Media, she opened up about her decision to leave the music industry.

She is currently a mental health advocate and an educator, feeling she has a lot to contribute to this field.

“It was great and all that, but one day my family and I decided that maybe it was the best time to go back to school and focus on work and study. It was okay with me. It was a tough decision, but at the end of the day, the future was promising. It was a nice career to pursue. I also had to consider my family’s decisions and ideas on how I could take a different career path. So, I went back to school,” she said.

She believes she can multitask and juggle all her careers right now. “It was a difficult decision for me to make at the time. You’re new to a certain type of audience and you haven’t had such a platform before; it was a hard decision. Maybe it happened for a reason, and I made peace with that. I accepted it and now here I am,” she shared, reflecting on quitting music after her first hit with Willy Paul.

When asked if she regrets the decision to quit music for school, she replied, “I have never regretted that decision. Maybe because my dad has successfully made his name, and for me, I think I had that perception that if there’s anything I would learn from someone, it would be from my dad. It was a no-brainer for me to choose what I desired.”
