Maureen Waititu’s inspiring advise to women on body-shaming
Content creator Maureen Waititu has words of encouragement for women struggling with body shaming. Speaking to Sharon K Mwangi on the Best Kept Secrets Podcast, Maureen indicated she has had struggles.
“Case in point like myself, when it comes to my weight, it’s like everybody is like ok she added weight, she’s lost a lot.”
There’s always somebody who is unhappy and of course you find yourself hiding or not fully showing up as yourself, but at the same time I am not very silent when it comes to those things. I call people out like, ‘Stop it, leave people alone!’ Coz its already so hard especially for a woman and a woman under a microscope.”
She pointed out a preoccupation of netizens on women’s weight, as it affects how they see and feel about their bodies.
“But I always say it’s projection. I don’t think anyone who is in a good place can give you something that they don’t have.”
Last year, Maureen revealed that she had undergone a gastric balloon procedure.
“And still people were like, ‘Oh no stop it.’ I found a middle ground and people still have to say it. But I think the older I’m getting, the more I realize those comments won’t add anything to my table. I’m like ok you focus on that and hey the bigger you are the more of you, you are.”
To date, Maureen will have moments where she will look at herself and not like what she sees.
‘It comes from that constant feeding of perfection. It is very easy to think that that’s how I should be looking even being compared. Come on ten years ago I looked different. I didn’t have kids. But the older we grow the hormones are like..”
She advises, “I have come to accept it, and I am looking at what my body has been through and I have to extend my body some grace.”
