Lupita’s powerful message to Kenyan Youth after anti-finance protests
US-based Kenyan actress Lupita Nyongo has added her voice to concerns expressed about the anti-tax protests held in Kenya.
Lupita has rejected the proposed Finance Bill 2024.
She shared encouraging words amid tension over the proposed tax measures that seek to inject an additional 346b in revenue.
Kenyans have been rejecting the bill while calling on their legislators to reject it as well.
Lupita noted the impact of Gen Z in calling for change
“I salute the Kenyan youth and I am grateful to them for coming together in an extraordinary way to stand up against the problematic Finance Bill 2024 as well as to defend and promote the democratic rights of the Kenyan people. “
She mourned the loss of lives and those injured offering her condolences
“I am extremely saddened that lives have been lost in the process and my thoughts are with the victims’ families. “
She called for constructive dialogue to address key concernsÂ
“May the Government of Kenya aim to peacefully unify the nation by hearing and addressing the concerns about bad governance that are rightfully being raised,” she ended her statement by saying #RejectFinanceBill2024.
President Ruto on Tuesday addressed the nation, saying the process had been infiltrated and hijacked by organized criminals. He said the Government had mobilized all resources at its disposal.
The military was also deployed by Defense CS Aden Duale to respond to threats.
