Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (KEPSHA) National Chairman Johnson Nzioka is dead.
Nzioka, who also served as the Headteacher of Donholm Primary School, died in a tragic road accident along Mombasa Road on Sunday, February 16, 2025.
In a message of condolence, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos praised Nzioka’s dedication and leadership.
“He was a dedicated, committed and insightful teacher and leader, who aspired for the best for our education system. As the Chairperson of the KEPSHA, Mr. Nzioka was keen on strengthening the role of school management for better educational outcomes,” Migos said.
KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu described Nzioka as an exemplary and outstanding leader with distinct diplomatic leadership skills that helped redefine the KEPSHA leadership into a world-class teachers’ association.
“The KEPSHA chairman stood out as a great mobilizer for headteachers’ activities and a negotiator for their welfare during his short stint at the helm of the association. Mr. Nzioka has been a regular contributor to teachers’ well-being generally. He will be remembered for his soft but forthright speaking, especially while brokering peace among his members,” Oyuu stated.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) also expressed sorrow at Nzioka’s passing, describing him as one of Kenya’s most respected academic stalwarts having served as a teacher under the commission for 38 years.
TSC CEO Nancy Macharia lauded Nzioka’s incredible academic performance and commitment to service, which saw him rise from the position of classroom teacher in 1987 to Headteacher in 2012.
“Mr Nzioka’s peerless delivery of service led him to a litany of professional achievements and successes, the apex of which was his election as the national chairman of the more than 23,000-member Kenya Primary School Heads Association (KEPSHA),” said Macharia.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino also sent his condolences to the Nzioka’s family and friends.
“I wish to express my sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Johnson Nzioka, Headteacher of Donholm Primary School, whose car rammed into a trailer along Mombasa Road. Philippians 1:21 – For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Rest in peace, my friend.”
