Kenya, Czech Republic seek climate change partnerships in circular economy, carbon markets

Kenya and the Czech Republic have begun discussions on strengthening climate change mitigation with a key focus on circular economy, carbon markets and technology transfer.

The talks commenced Wednesday when Environment and Climate Change Principal Secretary Festus Ng’eno hosted a Czech delegation led by Environment Minister Petr Hladik in Nairobi.

They also explored areas of collaboration in waste management, renewable energy, and research.

“The PS and the Minister discussed areas of collaboration between the two countries in promoting circular economy through material recovery facilities as well as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR),” a statement from the Ministry reads.

The two countries also engaged on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, which governs international carbon markets, and examined ways to leverage carbon trading opportunities.

Additionally, they explored avenues for technology transfer and innovation to enhance climate resilience and green energy solutions.

Minister Hladik was accompanied by Czech Republic Ambassador to Kenya Ms Nicol Adamcova, among others.
