Kareh B talks on why she ditched Country Music for Mugithi

Mary Gioche also known as Kareh B has revealed her breakthrough as a Mugithi artist came by sheer luck.

Kareh B, best known for her song ‘Tuiro Twega’, says she was not a fan of Mugithi music when she did the song featuring Jose Gatutura.

In an interview with Massawe Japanni, she shared

“I got my breakthrough in 2018.

I did my first song in 1010, it was a reggae song. I had been doing Live Bands before I met Jose Gatutura.”

She says before then she was doing Country Music

“When I was doing the song ‘Tuirio Twega’ I was doing Country Music.

I was not a Mugithi fan as I had not grown up listening to it.

We went and recorded the song ‘Tuirio Twega’ and thought it was just something I would be over and done with.

I was not enjoying Mugithi music as I had grown up in Nairobi. I went to High school in Muranga, which helped dilute the urbanness.”

Kareh B is currently looking for a songwriter

“I am contacting songwriters who can write songs for me.”

Why now?

“With time songs start to look alike.”
