Justice sector institutions must collaborate to fight graft, says Koome
Chief Justice Martha Koome has called for a coordinated approach among justice sector institutions to tackle corruption in the country.
Speaking during a meeting of the National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ), Koome described corruption as a persistent national challenge that erodes accountability, public trust, and service delivery.
“We all serve the people of Kenya, and therefore, we appreciate that justice sector institutions play a crucial role in creating awareness. We must walk this journey with Kenyans, assuring them they have a voice in the fight against corruption,” Koome stated.
To enhance the fight against graft, she announced that NCAJ has developed an anti-corruption strategic guiding framework set to be launched in March.
Koome disclosed that the framework will provide structured approaches to addressing corruption across institutions.
The CJ further outlined key resolutions adopted by NCAJ to address corruption and economic crimes related cases.
The resolutions include strengthening institutional coordination, improving legal and policy frameworks, and addressing administrative challenges such as duplication of laws on corruption-related offences.
She added that council will deepen digital innovation to reduce human interaction and minimize opportunities for corruption.
“We must prevent corruption at all costs within our institutions. This includes supporting investigative agencies and ensuring witness protection to enable the effective prosecution of corruption cases,” she stated.
