JSC promotes 39 magistrates to facilitate case backlog clearance » Capital News

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 28 – The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has promoted 39 magistrates to facilitate case backlog clearance.

In a statement, the Commission stated that this will further enhance the courts’ jurisdiction.

it pointed out that this will further improve the working conditions of the judicial officers and recognise the vital role they play in the dispensation of justice.

“The promotions will enhance the pecuniary jurisdiction of the Magistrates and as a result facilitate clearance of case backlog and improve access to justice. The career progression of the officers is also intended to motivate the workforce,” the commission stated.

This promotion has seen four principal magistrates promoted to the rank of senior principal magistrates, eleven senior resident magistrates promoted to Principal Magistrate and while twenty-four Senior principal magistrates have been promoted to Chief magistrate.

This was after the magistrates were taken through successful interviews

In addition to the promotions, the commission has come up with a new position- registrar automation and Elizabeth Tanui was appointed on the position.
