Impeachment: Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo to face Senate plenary

Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo will face a full plenary hearing in the Senate after a motion to form an 11-member special committee to investigate his impeachment was rejected.

The Senate convened a special sitting on Monday and opted for a full plenary session to hear the case. A motion tabled by Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale on behalf of the Majority Leader collapsed after Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo, who was expected to second the motion, instead opposed it.

The Speaker ruled that the impeachment hearing will take place on July 8 and 9.

Governor Guyo was impeached by the Isiolo County Assembly last week on allegations of abuse of office, violation of the Constitution, and gross misconduct.

The Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) accused him of irregularly appointing 36 advisors and 31 chief officers, awarding flawed contracts, and stalling development projects in the county.
