I am in the race for Nairobi UDA chairperson post, Sakaja affirms » Capital News
NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 25 – Nairobi Governor has remained firm in his stand to bid for the Nairobi United Democratic Alliance(UDA) Chairmanship stressing that no amount of pressure will stop him from vying.
Speaking during an interview with Inooro TV during the ‘Inooro Ruciini’ show, Sakaja refuted claims of experiencing pressure from the party to drop the bid, stressing that his only aim is to secure the seat and enable the party to be more united.
Sakaja further stressed that his firm resilience to stand for a seat despite political pressure is the key catalyst that enabled him to become victorious in the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat last elections.
“I’m not a leader who succumbs to pressure. If there was pressure I would not have been governor of Nairobi and I don’t know where they assume it is coming from. I have heard the rumors, but there is no such thing. what I have said as a leader in this city is that I want a united party,” he stated.
Sakaja has further affirmed that the party chairmanship race will cement the political muscle of the party and he is ready to face anyone who will bid for the seat.
“Everyone in Nairobi has the right to come and we shall face each other so that we can create a strong party,” he stated.
This comes days after the Governor declared his candidature for the seat. Sakaja will now face off with Embakasi North MP John Gakuya who had also announced his interest in vying for the same position.
Members of County Assembly (MCAs) allied to UDA, pledged to support the Governor in his bid
