How Murugi Munyi lost 100k to a stranger
The chances of someone accidentally sending money to the wrong contact have significantly decreased over the years due to the increased prompts for confirmation.
However, no one is entirely immune to this mistake, and several individuals have fallen victim to it. Influencer and businessperson Murugi Munyi recently shared her experience of mistakenly sending 100k to a stranger because she was sleepy while transacting.
Murugi began by issuing a warning, stating that transacting money when sleepy or under the influence of drugs can lead to financial trouble.
“Never send money when you are sleepy; first take a nap, then do the transaction,” she advised.
She recounted how this mishap occurred when she suddenly remembered a bill she needed to pay and decided to handle it immediately.
After entering the details in her money transfer app, she accidentally mistyped her number by just one digit and failed to verify the details.
This error happened due to her habit of not confirming her messages once sent. Minutes later, when she received a notification, she grew suspicious and quickly checked, only to discover that a random man had received the 100k intended for her.
Upon realizing the mistake, Murugi Munyi experienced anxiety attacks as she tried to contact her mobile money transfer company, hoping for a reversal.
At one point, she resigned herself to the idea that she might have inadvertently connected someone to their destiny. Despite it being a Sunday, the company successfully retrieved her funds, although it took more than two hours.
