Greening Kenya: CSs set to lead tree planting initiative next week
Cabinet Secretaries will spearhead tree-planting exercises in various counties as the government races to achieve the 15 billion trees target by 2032.
In the schedule released by Environment Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, Attorney General Justin Muturi will kick off the tree-planting drive at Ngong Hills Forest in Kajiado tomorrow.
On Tuesday, Education CS Ezekiel Machogu will lead a similar exercise at Sosio, Saboti, Kapolet, and Saiwa Swamp in Trans-Nzoia County.
Blue Economy CS Salim Mvurya will on Wednesday join residents for tree-planting in Hirimana and Mwinai Forest, Tana River County.
He will later proceed to Pandanguo and Lake Kenyatta in Lamu County.
In Kitui County, Tourism CS Alfred Mutua will be leading the exercise in Muumoni and Itikoni Wetland, as well as Lake Jipe Wetland, Taita Taveta County, on Thursday.
On Friday, Energy CS Davis Chirchir will head to Kericho County, where he will spearhead the exercise in Londiani and Kapnawai Wetland.
The CSs will also plant trees in Narasha, Mukutani Forest, Koibatek Forest, and Kamnarok Wetland in Baringo County.
Each of the 22 Cabinet Secretaries is expected to participate in tree-planting activities in various counties each week for the next six months.
The CSs will also oversee the progress of the trees planted in the assigned areas.
