Gov’t Healthcare reforms: Strengthening NHIF and KEMSA




Health Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha S. Wafula has backed government initiatives to revamp the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA).

At a Universal Health Coverage session Friday in Butere Kakamega County, Nakhumicha highlighted reforms to strengthen NHIF’s role in purchasing health services and enhance KEMSA’s procurement efficiency.

Efforts are underway to transition NHIF into the Social Health Authority (SHA) to ensure affordable and quality healthcare delivery.

During the event Kakamega County Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda commended Nakhumicha’s support for Community Health Promoters (CHPs) by providing them with screening equipment and smartphones, leading to improved healthcare provision at the grassroots level.
