Governors back leasing of sugar companies

The Council of Governors has backed the ongoing sugar reforms with the Government leasing four sugar factories to the private sector.

Speaking in Mombasa, the COG Chair Ahmed Abdullahi, Vice Chair Mutahi Kahiga, the Committee on Agriculture in the COG chaired by Ken Lusaka have made a clarion call for the reforms not to be politicised since it’s a step towards the right direction.

The Agriculture CS Mutahi Kagwe who opened an engagement forum with the CEC’s Agriculture from all the 47 counties has continued to defend the move to lease the factories highlighting that it rakes in over Ksh 14 billion  which benefits farmers and boosts efficiency of the sugar factories.
