Governor Nassir Orders Fire Safety Inspections in All Mombasa Schools » Capital News
MOMBASA, Kenya, Sept 8 – Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has ordered a comprehensive fire and safety inspection of all educational institutions in the county, set to begin on Monday.
This directive follows the tragic fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri, which claimed the lives of 21 students, sparking nationwide concern over school fire safety standards.
“The exercise aims to identify gaps in fire safety at learning institutions. We will also provide basic fire safety training to school operators,” said Governor Nassir during the Seventh Day Adventist camp week at Tononoka Grounds in Mvita Sub-County.
Nassir urged all schools to adhere to the county’s fire and safety regulations, emphasizing that the inspections would target both private and public institutions, including Early Childhood Development centres, primary and secondary schools, and universities.
The inspection will also equip school staff with essential fire safety training to improve emergency response preparedness.
