Gitobu Imanyara’s admiration for Gen Z as he recalls detention

Former politician Gitobu Imanyara has honored the unwavering spirit of Gen Z as he remembers Saba Saba, a day he and others were arrested and imprisoned for Kenya’s liberation.

He shared a newspaper article recalling the events and saluting the youth.

On his X.com account, the human rights lawyer expressed that his tears were not in vain as he watched Gen Z protest.

“On this day 34 years ago, I was served with a detention order at Nyayo House and locked up in the notorious basement torture chambers. I am happy to have survived to witness the young Gen Z warriors carry on the torch of freedom. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.”

The detention order showed him in handcuffs and moved many Kenyans who responded in the comments section.

They noted how detailed the order was and thanked the 70-year-old for his role in Kenya’s freedom.

One commenter, Shadwinwandrez, said, “Thank you, now let us, the Gen Z, finish what you people started.”

Another, Mercy Tarus, added, “Thank you for ensuring we are here to fight for better conditions. We are many. And surely you ought to come out and give the story. There is new political consciousness in every Kenyan youth.”
