Francis Gaitho charged with publication of false information

Social media influencer Francis Gaitho has been charged with spreading false information alleging that the DCI wrongly arrested a person as the prime suspect in the Kware killings.

Francis Nganga Gaitho stands accused of intentionally publishing false information on July 19, 2024, at approximately 1480 hours, using his social media account “X.”

The prosecution asserts that Gaitho’s actions were aimed at presenting the information as genuine and actionable.

Additionally, Gaitho faces a second charge for publishing false information through the same social media account, causing apprehension, violence, or potential damage to an innocent Kenyan implicated in the Kware killings.

The prosecution argues that Gaitho knew or should have known the potential consequences of such publications.

Appearing before Milimani senior principal magistrate Robinson Ondieki, Gaitho pleaded not guilty and requested lenient bond terms through his lawyer, citing that he posed no flight risk as he was arrested at his residence.

Despite the defense’s arguments, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) requested that Gaitho surrender his passport to the court.

Eventually, Gaitho was granted release on a cash bail of Sh30,000, with the case scheduled for mention on August 1.
